about
Doug and I have known each other since the late 80’s as college fraternity brothers, but until recent years I’ve admired his musical prowess from a distance. So one of the things I wanted to do on this project was co-write with Doug. I’d just recently gotten comfortable with the idea of co-writes, swapping ideas with another kindred musical spirit.
The song began one day in the studio, quite nonchalantly, as Doug went to get a cup of coffee. I banged out the opening riff and played it for him when he got back. He picked up his guitar and it pretty much took off from there.
We made a conscious decision near the beginning of the song’s creation to kind of go nuts with it; that it would be our big “production number.” Doug cranked away on a million guitars, some going forward, others going backward. I think at one point there are three separate guitar solos. We threw in a drum loop at the very beginning as well. I also asked Doug to lend his mad vocal skills on some backup harmonies – of which there are many, by the way. This song has Doug written all over it, and in my mind that’s hardly a bad thing.
lyrics
I think it's gonna be fine
Gonna do it right and take my time
Not rush into things& mess 'em up all over again
I wanted one more chance
Told you I was a victim of circumstance
Caught between my head and my heart it wasn't part of the plan
Don't you understand
Let me tell you that I'm a different man
I'm much better....
When the day comes
When the wait is gone
When all is said and done
I'll be there with you
When the day comes
When you long for closure
I'll still be loving you
It wasn't always this way
I can still remember how you'd say
That life is a ride and what's inside carries the load
I know I stepped outa line
But now I'm making up lost time
And I'm not gonna rest till we have found our way home
You still aren't so sure
You're wondering cause you have been there before
But this time it's different
When the day comes
When the wait is gone
When all is said and done
I'll be there with you
When the day comes
When you long for closure
I'll still be loving you
Don't you understand
That I'm a different man
I'm much better....
When the day comes
When the wait is gone
When all is said and done
I'll be there with you
When the day comes
When you long for closure
I'll still be loving you
